The Global Peace
Initiative of Women Religious and Spiritual
Leaders, also known as the Global Peace
Initiative, is an unprecedented gathering of
women religious, business and government leaders
from every faith and region in the world, who
are meeting to forge a partnership to reduce
conflict, violence and religious hatred. It is a
network of women that has unique potential to
blend the leadership abilities of women towards
a common goal of building reconciliation and
healing in regions of conflict.
On October 6-9, 2002, over 500 women leaders
from religion, business and government came
together to Geneva, Switzerland to launch an
historic effort by women to assure a more
prominent role in global peace building. This
initiative was conceived and developed by a
small group of women religious leaders who
participated in the Millennium World Peace
Summit that convened at the United Nations in
New York in 2000.
